National RTAP GTFS: Three Steps to Trip Planning that Meets New NTD Reporting Requirements in 2023

-

Is your agency’s GTFS up-to-date? Do you have a valid GTFS .zip file ready for your NTD? If not, we can help.

National Transit Database (NTD) reporting in 2023 for fixed and deviated fixed routes will require a link to your agency’s valid and current General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS). GTFS is the international standard used to digitize and publish trip plan data (bus stop locations and schedules). When published, GTFS data offers mobile and on-line trip planning such as Google Maps, Bing, Apple Maps, Moovit, TransitApp, CityMapper, and others.

National RTAP is offering free targeted, hands-on training to help you publish your services online. This training walks you through National RTAP’s free GTFS Builder application, a simple tool in Excel, used in the development of GTFS data. You will also learn about a workaround for on-demand services until the GTFS-Flex is fully deployed. The training is available to all, so please feel free to forward this invitation to your team or staff. However, this session will be limited to 40, so register early!

The training will consist of three 1-hour sessions held at 2:00pm ET on Tuesday, August 8, Tuesday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 29, 2023. To fully participate, you will need Excel and Google Earth on your PC/desktop. The third session explores shapes creation, and the on-demand workaround. At the end of the training, you can expect to complete GTFS data for one bus route, and most importantly, have the ability to create GTFS data for all other routes. These sessions will follow a similar format to those offered above in March 2023.
