Webinar: National RTAP - GTFS - Three Steps to Trip Planning

Through this workshop series, National RTAP is offering free hands-on training to help you develop your GTFS data and make your route and schedule information through online trip planners.

In July, 2022, FTA proposed a requirement that General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data be included in the annual National Transit Database (NTD) for all fixed routes. While not federally mandated yet, we suggest you get a jump start. And of course, publishing GTFS data will allow your agency to offer mobile and online trip planning to the benefit of your agency and your riders. Are you ready? If not, we can help.

GTFS is the international standard used to publish trip plan data (bus stop locations and schedules). This training walks you through National RTAP’s free GTFS Builder tool to develop GTFS data. With GTFS Builder, your transit services can be published on trip planners such as Google Maps, Bing, Apple Maps, Moovit, TransitApp, CityMapper, and others. You will also learn about a workaround for demand response services. The training will be limited to 40 participants, so register early!

The training will consist of three 1-hour sessions held at 2:00pm ET on Wed. March 8, Wed. March 15, and Mon. March 27. To fully participate, you will need Excel and Google Earth on your desktop. The third session offers time to answer questions as well as more more advanced topics, time permitting, such as shape files (which shows the path of a bus route on a map). At the end of this series, you can expect to complete GTFS data for one bus route, and most importantly, be able to create and maintain GTFS data for other routes.
