Pathways Internship Program

Pathways Internship Program

FTA hires Pathways Interns with a focus on long-term career potential and how well they fit with FTA's workforce needs. The Pathways Internship Program spans multiple semesters, readying students for careers and providing a direct path to full-time employment upon graduation.

To be eligible, candidates must be:

  • A U.S. citizen.
  • At least 18 years old on or before the first day of the internship.
  • Enrolled in a vocational or trade, undergraduate or graduate program at a 2- to 4-year college or university.
  • Currently have and maintain a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4-point scale).
  • Able to complete at least 640 hours of work before completing a degree or certificate program.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Recent Graduate Program

Recent Graduate Program

For those who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions, the Recent Graduate Program provides opportunities to apply academic training and knowledge in a professional setting. Recent graduate appointees are placed in a two-year career development program.

To be eligible, candidates must have:

  • Completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associate, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
  • Not be a veteran who has received their degree within two years because of military service obligations. Veterans have up to six years after completing their degree to apply.

Future Leaders in Public Service

Through the FLIPS Internship Program, FTA brings diverse young talent to the agency. It offers students the opportunity to apply their educational training to work in the Federal government.

To be eligible, candidates must be:

  • A U.S. citizen.
  • Enrolled at an accredited educational institution in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Currently have and maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Applications for summer 2025 are TBA.

DOD Skillbridge Program

DOD Skillbridge Program

This program provides an opportunity for service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects service members with industry partners in real-world job settings.

Why Skillbridge with FTA?

  • The skillbridge program will bridge the gap between your end of service and the start of your civilian career.
  • High probability of post-experience employment with FTA.
  • Engagement and networking opportunities with military and employer communities.
  • Service members will still receive military pay and benefits throughout Skillbridge opportunity.

  • Visit the DOD Skillbridge site for available opportunities with FTA.
  • Must be available to participate in the program within 2-4 months of applying.
  • Submit your resume to FTAInternships@dot.gov. Please include your available timeframe to participate in the program and the opportunity that you are most interested in.
  • Qualified candidates will interview with the FTA Program office for further consideration.
  • If selected, we will begin the onboarding process and welcome you to FTA.
