Project Overview

The Milwaukee Intermodal Station (433 West St. Paul Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53203) serves as the "gateway" to downtown Milwaukee. It is an important transportation link for the Milwaukee area allowing more than 1.3 million passengers per year to use the facility to make connections to Amtrak's Hiawatha Service and Empire Builder, as well as to Greyhound and other local and regional bus services, county transit, taxis and personal vehicles. Of the eight Wisconsin stations served by Amtrak, Milwaukee was the busiest in FY10, boarding or detraining an average of about 1,610 passengers daily.

In November 2007 the facility was re-named the Milwaukee Intermodal Station following a $16.9 million dollar renovation of the main building to expand the waiting area with a glass atrium and improved space for Amtrak ticketing, as well as motorcoach (bus) passenger facilities, restaurant, and retail space.

The facility also offers a variety of amenities, including food service through the All Aboard Café and vending machines, as well as an ATM, free Wi-Fi for waiting passengers, bicycle racks/lockers, and a convenient passenger drop-off lane in the front of the building. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation owns the station and platforms, and the DOT's Statewide Traffic Operations Center is located on the third floor of the station.
