FTA Training Courses

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer classes or guidance to agencies transitioning from a population under 200,000 to over 200,000? If so, where can we attend classes to give us guidance on using the TEAM system? We have been a transit authority with population under 200,000. However, we have been deemed a population over 200,000 and will be dealing directly with FTA and not going through the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). We need to know what will be expected of us because we are used to submitting everything through (GDOT).

FTA offers several training courses through NTI and has many helpful guidance materials on-line, such as the Best Practices Procurement Manual (BPPM). Additionally, the Region 4 Office is an excellent resource. I don't believe there is a specific training course for those grantees growing to 200,000. You may reach NTI at http://ntionline.com. The Best Practices Procurement Manual may be accessed online.

I am attempting to locate the following information: (1) A list of 5-6 core courses that are recommended for Construction Contract Administrators. (2) I have been told that the Federal government has developed a program (core competencies) for construction contracts—where can I locate that program?

The National Transit Institute (NTI) offers several basic procurement courses as well as a course in “Management of Transit Construction Projects.”

There are also some safety and security courses available from the Transportation Safety Institute.

Federal Publications, Inc., offers a number of construction contracting courses. They may be found online at http://www.fedpubseminars.com/ and by phone at 703-289-9525. We are not familiar with the Federal Government core competencies program but Federal Publications should be aware of this.
