El Camino Real Corridor BRT Project Capital Investment Program Project Profiles: FY 2017

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) proposes to implement bus rapid transit (BRT) in the 17.4-mile El Camino Real corridor between downtown San Jose and downtown Palo Alto. VTA expects the project will include dedicated lanes over a portion of the alignment, 16 stations (14 of which would be constructed as part of the project) with level boarding, off-board fare collection, transit signal priority, BRT branding for vehicles and stations, and improved pedestrian and bicycle access. The project is planned to use vehicles that VTA procured in conjunction with another BRT project. The project’s current capital cost estimate is $188.0 million. VTA may seek up to $74.99 million from the Small Starts program.
