Funding Recipient Requirements

This document provides program and oversight requirements for projects funded under the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks program. Section 3021 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) (49 U.S.C. § 5320) established the Transit in Parks Program to provide for alternative transportation in Federally owned or managed recreation lands, such as National Parks, National Forests, National Wildlife Refuges, and Bureau of Land Management Special Recreation Areas. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) administers the program in partnership with the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
