Summary

Federal public transportation law (49 USC 5311(c)(1)(A)) authorizes the competitive amount of the Public Transportation on Indian Reservations Program (Tribal Transit Program or TTP). The competitive grants under FTA's TTP allow tribes to buy transit vehicles, upgrade bus facilities, and expand transit options.

The steps under Stage 1 include Step 1: Applicant registers on SAM.gov and Grants.gov well in advance of application; Step 2: Applicant reviews the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO); and Step 3: Applicant submits their application before the application deadline. Stage 2 is FTA Announces. The steps under Stage 2 include Step 4. FTA reviews, rates, and selects projects based on how applicants address the evaluation criteria in the NOFO; and Step 5. FTA announces project selections. Stage 3 is Implement. The steps under Stage 3 include Step 6: Recipient reviews the project implementation guidance, which includes guidance and administrative requirements under the Tribal Transit Program; and Step 7: Recipient works with the regional office to implement the award.

Eligibility

  • Eligible applicants include Federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska Native Villages, groups, or communities as identified by the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs.

  • A complete proposal submission will consist of at least two files:
  • A submission may contain additional supporting documentation as attachments.
  • An applicant must submit a proposal electronically through Grants.gov by 11:59 PM ET on 11/13/2024.
    • Applicants should register on the Grants.gov website well before the application deadline, as it is a multi-step process that may take several weeks to complete.
    • Applicants who have already registered in Grants.gov may still need to take steps update their registration before they can submit an application.
