Broward Commuter Rail South Project Profile

Broward County proposes to implement commuter rail service along 11.5 miles of the existing Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway from the Brightline Aventura Station in Miami-Dade County to the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. The proposed project includes three stations and parking facilities that are expected to be built within existing city, county, and/or FEC Railway properties along with corresponding improvements to the existing Hialeah Maintenance Facility in Miami-Dade County. Other elements include track, signaling, and safety and communication improvements along the corridor, as well as acquisition of rolling stock for the service. According to Broward County, the project plans to share the FEC Railway with freight trains and intercity passenger trains. The project’s current estimated capital cost is $297.0 million, with the amount of Capital Investment Grants funding requested to be determined.
