ARRA Fact Sheet: CDTA Bus Replacement Program
Project: CDTA Bus Replacement Program
City: Albany
State: New York
ARRA Award Amount: $15 Million
Program: Urbanized Area Formula
Description:
The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is using its ARRA formula funds for their Bus Replacement Program to purchase forty 40-foot low-floor clean diesel vehicles, six paratransit vehicles and five shuttle vehicles. With the purchase of 36 clean diesel vehicles, CDTA provides benefits in fuel economy and for the environment without sacrificing performance. Clean diesel contributes to better air quality on the streets and also benefits employees in the bus garage where the buses are stored and maintained.
The Bus Replacement Program will continue to connect 15 million riders to the three urban core areas (Albany, Schenectady and Troy). These vehicles will provide a much more comfortable and convenient riding experience for passengers. Without ARRA funding, these vehicles would have been beyond the reach of CDTA. The ARRA funding has helped to retain three indirect jobs.
