Tribal Transit Symposium, May 2023
To provide a one-stop shop for technical assistance for Tribal leaders and Tribal organizations, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and FTA co-hosted a Tribal Transit Symposium in May 2023.
The two-day learning opportunity included information on initiating transit programs on Tribal lands and technical assistance to expand and improve existing Tribal transit systems. Session leaders discussed tips for submitting DOT and FTA grant applications, including eligibility and reporting requirements. The symposium also afforded ample opportunities for participants to provide feedback at a listening session and a town hall focused on improving FTA’s Tribal Transit Program.
Session topics included:
- DOT/FTA priorities and funding opportunities under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
- FTA and DOT technical assistance
- Best practices and industry trends
- Interactive engagement with DOT/FTA
This hybrid event was open to in-person attendees at the Oklahoma City Convention Center as well as participants live online. In-person participants had the opportunity to ask questions, provide input, and receive hands-on technical assistance from DOT and FTA representatives.
